Introduction
Thank you for choosing IBrowse² as your AmigaOS® web browser! If you have reached this stage, you have already downloaded and unpacked the IBrowse² archive from the IOSPIRIT website. This section will now guide you through the installation of this release onto your hard disk, and get you started with your first steps onto the World Wide Web.

Before You Start
Before you start the installation, there are a few things you should do:
  • Make a full backup of your IBrowse² IBrowse2.3-020+.lha archive.
  • Make a full backup of your IBrowse² IBrowse2Key keyfile.
  • Make a full backup of your AmiSSLv2 AmiSSL2.2.lha archive (where required).
  • Check your system requirements.

Backing Up
It is recommended that you make a full backup of your IBrowse² archive, your IBrowse² keyfile, and your AmiSSLv2 archive onto a separate medium from your hard disk, such as a CD-R(W). Whilst you can download the archives again from the IOSPIRIT website in case of corruption or loss, it is more convenient to have a local backup available.

System Requirements
The following are the system requirements for this release of IBrowse²:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Kickstart 3.0
  • MC68020 or higher
  • 5 MB free memory (6 MB for AmiSSLv2)
  • MUI 3.8
Recommended Requirements:
  • Kickstart 3.1 (V40) or higher
  • MC68040 or higher
  • 10 MB free memory
  • A CyberGraphX or P96 compatible graphics board
  • MUI 3.8 or later

MUI Installation
In the unlikely event that you do not have MUI already installed on your system, you will require the MUI user archive from Aminet. Before following the MUI installation instructions, it is recommended that you read all of this section and print or write down the rest of the IBrowse² installation procedure as you will be required to reboot your system after installing MUI and may lose this documentation if the IBrowse² archive was unpacked to RAM:
  • Download muiXXusr.lha from Aminet, where XX is the version e.g. 38 for MUI 3.8 [http://www.aminet.net/util/libs/mui38usr.lha]
  • Unpack muiXXusr.lha into a temporary directory on your system e.g. RAM:
  • Double click the MUI icon to open the main directory.
  • Double click the Install-MUI icon to commence the installation.
  • Select an installation level you are comfortable with, and then click Proceed With Install.
  • Reboot your system after the installation has finished to make the MUI system available to AmigaOS®.

IBrowse² Installation
With MUI installed on your system, you are now ready to install IBrowse² itself. Follow the details below, choosing the appropriate options where applicable.
Info It is recommended that you quit IBrowse if it is running, before proceeding with the installation.
  • Unpack IBrowse2.3-020+.lha into a temporary directory on your system e.g. RAM:
  • Double click the IBrowse2.3-020+ icon to open the main directory.
  • Double click the Install-IBrowse icon to commence the installation.
  • Select an installation level you are comfortable with, and then click Proceed With Install.
Installing from new:
  • Continue with the installation as prompted.
  • If you have an IBrowse2Key, copy it into the IBrowse directory.
Upgrading v1.x to v2.3:
  • Select the same destination as your current IBrowse 1.x directory when prompted.
  • Your existing IBrowse 1.x directory will be automatically renamed to IBrowseV1.
  • The upgrade will now be installed into a new directory called IBrowse.
  • Continue with the installation as prompted.
  • Run the IBrowse1Key installer as provided by IOSPIRIT.
  • Continue with the installation as prompted.
  • Open a new Shell/CLI prompt, and enter avail flush to clear any old files from the system memory.
Upgrading v2.x to v2.3:
  • Select the same destination as your existing IBrowse² 2.x directory when prompted.
  • Continue with the installation as prompted.
  • Open a new Shell/CLI prompt, and enter avail flush to clear any old files from the system memory.
Info When the installation is complete, it is recommended that you reboot your system to ensure the latest libraries are used, however this is not a requirement.

AmiSSLv2 Installation
IBrowse² supports Secure Socket Layers via two implementations, MiamiSSL for use with the Miami and MiamiDX TCP/IP stacks only, and AmiSSLv2 for use with Miami, MiamiDX, Genesis, AmiTCP or Roadshow TCP/IP stacks. Whilst AmiSSLv2 is not a requirement for Miami/MiamiDX users, it is recommended as it is based on a newer OpenSSL implementation than MiamiSSL is.
  • Download AmiSSL2.2.lha from the IOSPIRIT website.
  • Unpack AmiSSL2.2.lha into a temporary directory on your system e.g. RAM:
  • Double click the AmiSSL icon to open the main directory.
  • Double click the Install-AmiSSL icon to commence the installation.
  • Select an installation level you are comfortable with, and then click Proceed With Install.
  • Continue with the installation as prompted.

Launching IBrowse²
Now that all of the required software for IBrowse² has been installed, you are ready to run IBrowse² for the first time. IBrowse² can be launched in two ways, either via the icon on Workbench, or via the command name from a Shell/CLI window. The simplest way is to double click the icon on Workbench, so first locate the IBrowse² icon in the directory that you originally installed the archive into. Once you have done this, double click the icon, and IBrowse² will begin loading.
The first time IBrowse² is run, it will open on the Workbench screen, and will load the about: page by default. If you are currently offline, you will need to go online to surf the World Wide Web, or alternatively you can load this documentation into the browser and "surf" that instead!
Surfing itself is a simple matter of pointing at a link, and clicking the left mouse button. It is very easy to learn, but it is recommended that you read some more of the documentation to familiarise yourself with the basic features of IBrowse² and the World Wide Web.
